‘Cagey affair’ – Michael Owen predicts winner as West Ham face Tottenham

Michael Owen has backed Tottenham to take all three points against West Ham United when they clash on Tuesday night.

The former Liverpool man believes that Spurs will squeeze past the Irons after they collapsed in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United over the weekend.

It will be the first time in Premier League history that David Moyes comes up against Jose Mourinho in what could be a must-win for West Ham.

Owen believes the returning Dele Alli could have a big say on the final result, before backing West Ham to survive the drop.

“West Ham’s 0-2 defeat to Wolves at the weekend means they have now lost six of their last eight games in the Premier League and in fact have only recorded one win in their last ten,” he wrote for Bet Victor.

“I still fancy the Irons to climb away from the relegation zone but with Son Heung-min and Harry Kane back for Spurs after their injuries and with Dele Alli available again after his one-match suspension, I feel that Spurs will squeeze to an important home win in what is sure to be a tight, cagey affair.”

West Ham need to start Tuesday’s game in the exact same manner as they finished the reverse fixture.

Falling 3-0 behind at the London Stadium was certainly not part of the plan, but two goals in the final 20 minutes made it a much more respectable scoreline of 3-2.

It was quite an even tie with the Irons keeping 47.1% of the ball and only having four fewer shots on goal according to WhoScored.

Tottenham tired quickly against Manchester United and if Moyes’ men can stay in the game until the final half an hour, it could really open up for players such as Jarrod Bowen and Felipe Anderson – time will tell.
