Bruno Fernandes holds on-pitch inquest with Casemiro after Manchester United loss v West Ham United

Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro were seen holding an on-pitch inquest at the London Stadium after West Ham claimed a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

The Hammers turned in a fantastic performance to claim all three points thanks to Said Benrahma’s goal in the first-half, and all but secured their Premier League status for next season.

But while West Ham were the better side on the day, Fernandes and Casemiro wanted to know why and according to The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell there was a “mini-inquest” on the pitch at full-time to decipher what happened.

“Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro holding a mini-inquest on the pitch after applauding fans who stayed,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (7 May).

“Fatigue seems to be a factor in 2nd half drops of levels.

“Tight turnaround meant Manchester United had recovery in south after Brighton, then did West Ham as a day trip.”

There seems to be a lot of chatter on Monday morning about how bad Manchester United were in the game and how a lot of their players underperformed.

Granted, the goal we scored was a big error by David De Gea, but where is the credit for West Ham performing well and dominating them for the vast majority of the 90 minutes? We also should have had a penalty too.

Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta were outstanding in midfield while Nayef Aguerd was brilliant defensively too. Thilo Kehrer had one of his best games in a claret and blue shirt also, locking up Marcus Rashford for the most part.

Their inquest would have been easy enough to decipher what went wrong. They just weren’t good enough on the day to beat us because we’re a very good team when we’re on it.

Now all eyes move to the Europa Conference League semi-final against AZ Alkmaar and a similar performance to this should see us as favourites to get the victory.
