Brady sings Gold & Sullivan’s praises amid West Ham anniversary

We are now amid David Gold and David Sullivan’s 10-year anniversary at West Ham United, something which has been met with protests from fans.

They’ve largely failed to take the club forward in terms of on-field performance, although they have shored it up financially and moved to a new stadium.

That last bit is controversial amongst supporters in and of itself, and the team hasn’t done well enough to justify it in their eyes.

Vice chairwoman Karren Brady, however, feels that the two owners have done a good job at the helm of the east London outfit.

“Success in football, much like in life, is never guaranteed but our ambition for this incredible club to deliver what its loyal and passionate supporters deserve remains and we are working harder than ever to achieve it,” she wrote in her column for The Sun.

“We have learned a great deal and, while we may not have consistently reached the heights in the Premier League that we all hoped for, there are many special moments we will cherish forever.

“We all want glory on the pitch but our first job is to protect the existence and long-term viability of the club. Ten years ago, West Ham’s future looked uncertain.

“The move to London Stadium has given us a platform and an opportunity to invest more in the team, one we simply didn’t have previously. It doesn’t guarantee success but it certainly gives us a better chance in the long term of being more than a yo-yo team.”

Does Brady have any good points, here?

She’s right that the club is secure now and no longer on the brink of administration. However, the investment they’ve made in the team has largely been wasted.

If moving to the London Stadium allowed them to invest more in the squad, but yet they generally bought the wrong players, then what was the point in leaving Upton Park?

What Brady fails to mention is that Gold promised regular top-seven football within 10 years of taking over. Has that been achieved? Don’t bother answering.

In other West Ham news, manager David Moyes and the club’s big wigs have reportedly decided that one Hammer has played his last game for the Irons.
