Bolton boss Ian Evatt claims Oladapo Afolayan was kicked by Morecambe manager

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt claims West Ham loanee Oladapo Afolayan had to be substituted after he was attacked by Morecambe manager Derek Adams on Saturday.

Afolayan, 23, joined the Trotters on a temporary deal on February 1, and he has helped to inspire the League Two side to a brilliant run of results that have left them within touching distance of automatic promotion.

But he was in the thick of the action for the wrong reasons against Morecambe on Saturday afternoon after an ugly confrontation with the opposition manager in the first half, and Evatt told Bolton News the sensational reason behind Afolayan’s half-time withdrawal.

“He [Adams] tried to grab Dapo and then he had a little kick out at him and it’s just nonsense really.

“We had to sacrifice Dapo because the manager was trying to fight him, which is ridiculous, and it got him booked. I’m not sure why Dapo got booked for it and then you can see people targeting him and the referee trying to even it up.

“He was really upset.”

Irons always in the thick of it

Who’d have thought Fabian Balbuena’s red card wouldn’t be the most ridiculous Irons-related story of Saturday?

We had enough on our hands at the London Stadium against Chelsea after Chris Kavanagh bizarrely sent the defender off after reviewing the pitchside VAR monitor.

But at least he wasn’t set upon by the opposition manager.

It’s a shame that had to lead to Afolayan being substituted and hopefully the EFL and FA come down hard on Adams for his shameful actions.

Afolayan’s West Ham contract expires in June so his future in East London is precarious, especially given his age (23) now. [Transfermarkt]

David Moyes and his coaching staff are surely keeping one eye on him and the other loanees, and they won’t be impressed by Adams role in Saturday’s incident.
