Billy McKinlay spotted at West Ham training
Billy McKinlay, who has been linked by the Evening Standard to the vacant West Ham assistant manager’s role, has been spotted at Rush Green ahead of pre-season training.
Sun journalist Alan Nixon tweeted that McKinlay to West Ham is done and included a tweet from the Hammers’ official Twitter page.
These images show Felipe Anderson, but in the second one, McKinlay can be seen in the background, suggesting that he has joined the Hammers in some capacity, and we are now just waiting for an official announcement.
McKinlay to West Ham a done deal?
It appears as if the former Sunderland and Real Sociedad assistant manager is now working for the Hammers and could be Alan Irvine’s replacement as assistant manager.
However, the club haven’t said anything about McKinlay yet, but given that he has been included in an official club photo, you can probably assume that the Scot will be joining David Moyes’ backroom team.
The 52-year-old has vast experience and has worked with Moyes at Sunderland and Sociedad, as well as with the Hammers the first time Moyes was at the London Stadium.
So, it is no surprise at all to see McKinlay back working with Moyes, and the Irons boss clearly trusts him, which can only be a good thing.
So, now we wait for the official confirmation, but this picture suggests that the Hammers have appointed McKinlay, and it will be intriguing to see when they officially announce it.
