BBC pundit drools over West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini v Man City
West Ham lost 2-1 against Manchester City in the Premier League clash on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.
BBC pundit Stephen Warnock has showered heaps of praise on Manuel Lanzini after he scored a spectacular goal in the dying minutes of the game. He said that the Argentine is capable of producing “moments of genius”.
Although it was a mere consolation goal in the end for the Hammers, the technique and execution behind the effort deserve rich praise.
“He’s capable of the magic isn’t he, Manuel Lanzini? He’s capable if producing moments of genius,” said Warnock on BBC Radio 5 (via BBC Sport).
“He chests the ball down, lets it come across his body, swivels with his right foot and just lashes it into the top corner, Ederson no chance.”
Lanzini came off the bench in place of Said Benrahma in the 59th minute.
The 28-year-old has struggled for regular games this season, having managed only 109 minutes of Premier League action. He has featured heavily in the Europa League campaign, though.
Lanzini is yet to make a start in the Premier League, and yet he has managed a goal and an assist to his name.
David Moyes will be pleased to see the quality and application from him when he came on from the bench, and Lanzini deserves a chance to start for the Hammers.
The Hammers stuck to their game plan nicely but the second goal from Fernandinho killed all hopes of getting something from the game.
West Ham have now lost back to back games in the Premier League, but they still retain the fourth position, sharing the same points with Arsenal.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes was furious with one Hammers man after City’s first goal.
