Aston Villa v West Ham United postponement latest after Met Office update

West Ham and Aston Villa could be under threat of their clash being postponed amid the latest update from the Met Office.

Yellow weather warnings have been forecast [Met Office, 23 January]ahead of the clash at Villa Park on Sunday (26 January) with spells of heavy rain and local flooding possible.

Although it is unlikely that rainfall would affect the game at Villa Park going ahead, the risk of power cuts, floods and road closures could take their toll in the West Midlands.

With the clash due to kick off at 4:30pm, there is a chance of precipitation of between 80 and 90 per cent while the temperature could reach as high as six degrees.

Aston Villa and West Ham could be at risk after Met Office update

With the drainage systems in place at Premier League grounds in the modern age, heavy rain itself is very unlikely to have a damaging effect.

It isn’t so much the rain itself that Graham Potter’s side have to be concerned with it is the damaging effect the weather can have.

If the wet weather and potential flooding have a damaging effect and cause power cuts at Villa Park, the game won’t be able to go ahead.

This would leave the stadium without flood lights, payment methods and ticket scanners which are all integral to the match going ahead and the general fan experience.
