Aston Villa chief Johan Lange on West Ham United radar
West Ham United are considering Aston Villa chief Johan Lange to fill the soon-to-be vacant sporting director position at the London Stadium, according to 90min.
Mark Noble is set to step into a different role after a disappointing 2022/23 Premier League campaign for David Moyes’ side
90min report (24 May) that any appointment will be made to take back an element of control when it comes to who West Ham are targeting in the transfer window.
Lange has emerged as a potential contender alongside Roma’s Tiago Pinto.
Impressive
Lange’s recruitment at Villa has been impressive. The second half of the 2022/23 season has seen the Villans fly up the league standings with Unai Emery at the helm. The task at West Ham would be a similar one for the Dane to get stuck into, so this is a move which makes a lot of sense.

Furthermore, change could well be afoot at Villa Park. Emery only took the job at the back end of 2022 and could well be looking to implement a different structure at the top end of the club.
From West Ham’s perspective, this is a role they need to fill quickly. Transfer talk is starting to ramp up and a sporting director will make Moyes’ life a lot easier. With Declan Rice almost certain to depart, there will be plenty of work to do during the off-season.
Another central midfielder, striker, centre back and winger are required. Moyes will be the man at the helm but it’s vitally important the Scot is assisted.
