Arsenal star Declan Rice spotted meeting West Ham United shareholder in London
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice was spotted meeting with Albert Smith, a West Ham shareholder, in London.
West Ham Football took to Twitter to share the images on the street with the meeting taking place at the Oswald’s Members Club in Mayfair.
The midfielder broke the record for the most expensive British player of all time when he sealed a move to the London Stadium in the summer.
Via Twitter, they wrote: “Former Hammer Declan Rice has been pictured in a secret meeting with West Ham shareholder Albert ‘Tripp’ Smith.
“The meeting took place at the luxury Oswald’s Members Club in the Mayfair district of London.
“Smith owns 8% of West Ham shares.”
Not much in it for the Hammers as Rice is well settled at Arsenal
While the meeting between Rice and Smith may raise eyebrows, it’s important not to jump to conclusions about its significance.
Rice’s connection to the Hammers runs deep, having spent a significant portion of his career there before joining Arsenal.
It’s entirely plausible that this meeting was simply a friendly or informal catch-up between Rice and someone he knows from his time at the London Stadium.
Additionally, the midfielder’s ambition to win the Premier League and Champions League with Arsenal indicates his commitment to his current club, suggesting that any discussions with the Irons may not necessarily involve a transfer or contract negotiations.
Moreover, players often maintain relationships with former colleagues and associates even after moving to different clubs.
While fans would want Rice playing for the club again, they’ll be delighted with the money Arsenal spent to secure his services.
