Arsenal legend Ian Wright blown away by West Ham United defender Konstantinos Mavropanos

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has been impressed with West Ham signing Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer transfer window.

He also gave a special mention to Tim Steidten who played a pivotal role in getting in a number of new players this summer.

The Hammers signed Mohammed Kudus, James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez over the summer and shelled out £18million for the Greece international who was formerly at Arsenal.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright said (04/09, 14:45), “Mavropanos is a very good signing. They’ve got a new recruitment guy there. West Ham will be very happy with the money they’ve spent and the signings made.”

Time will tell

Signing Mavropanos may have underwhelmed a number of West Ham fans given the number of quality centre-backs that were linked.

Most of them have last seen the Greece international in the Premier League when he was a young player in a dysfunctional Arsenal side.

If Steidten and David Moyes both approved of signing him, there certainly must be something to him but time will tell whether he’s the right signing.

Moyes has deployed a back three as well so he could slot into that defence with Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd on either side.

It remains to be seen what the plan is for Mavropanos as he’s still only 25 and will get better with time so he’s hopefully worth the outlay.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open to leaving his side this summer.
