Arne Slot sack verdict emerges ahead of Liverpool’s trip to West Ham

Stephen Warnock does not believe Arne Slot is at immediate risk of being sacked by Liverpool ahead of next weekend’s trip to West Ham.

Liverpool have made a terrible start to their Premier League title defence as they sit down in 11th place, 11 points adrift of Arsenal after 12 matches.

The Reds lost 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday to lead to serious questions over Slot’s future for the first time, just six months after lifting the title.

Liverpool’s bad run has coincided with an upturn in form for the Irons, with West Ham now predicted to avoid relegation this season.

Slot now faces a huge week, with Liverpool following up a clash against PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday with a trip to the London Stadium on Sunday.

Stephen Warnock does not expect Arne Slot sack at Liverpool

Should Slot lose to West Ham next weekend, it will only add to the fears many Liverpool fans have about where this season is heading.

However, former Liverpool player Warnock does not believe the Dutchman’s job is under threat at this point.

“No, no I don’t [think he’s at risk],” Warnock is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

“I know there has been a lot of talk on social media from fans but I think with everything that has gone on over the summer, the new influx of players that have come into the football club, I think he’s got enough in the bank to turn things around.

“It’s a difficult job. If you lose games, it’s always tough and it’s always trying to find solutions. You have to make big decisions along the way, but I don’t see him getting sacked anytime soon.”

Liverpool fans may well share that view, but defeat in East London next weekend could see Liverpool drop as low as 14th.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s own focus will be on building on a positive run, with West Ham’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth making it seven points from three matches.

Callum Wilson’s performance was a huge positive for West Ham, albeit Nuno will not be happy to have let a two-goal lead slip at the Vitality Stadium.

West Ham have terrible record vs Liverpool

Slot will perhaps be grateful that Liverpool’s next league game is against West Ham, whom the Reds have a great record against.

Liverpool beat West Ham 2-1 in April when the sides last met, with that their eighth win in nine meetings against the Irons, with the other match in that sequence ending all square.

West Ham’s past five results vs Liverpool

Not since November 2021 have West Ham beaten Liverpool in any competition, with that their only win against the Reds in 20 attempts.

West Ham fans are so used to sack talk surrounding their own manager, so this will make a nice change as the pressure is hopefully upped on Slot with an Irons win next Sunday.
