‘Are they?’ – Jamie Carragher hits back at what was just said about West Ham

Jamie Carragher was at odds with Jill Scott’s assessment of West Ham’s recent form in the Premier League.

West Ham are travelling to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City this weekend, in what looks to be a huge task for Nuno Espirito Santo‘s struggling side.

Getting any kind of result from Pep Guardiola‘s title-challenging team would be huge, as West Ham look to put their 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa behind them.

Man City were able to rotate their team in a 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Brentford on Wednesday, meaning Nuno’s men look set to face a largely refreshed City team.

Jamie Carragher refutes Jill Scott’s West Ham claim ahead of Man City clash

Carragher believes Man City will beat West Ham 4-0 in his Super 6 predictions for this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures, and has tipped Erling Haaland to get among the goals as well.

The Liverpool legend doubled-down on those beliefs on the Stick to Football show this week, when fellow pundit Jill Scott made the case for West Ham playing better in recent games.

“West Ham are doing alright,” said Scott (1hr, 24m), as the panel discussed their Super 6 predictions together with Carragher and Gary Neville predicting a 3-0 win for City.

Carragher wasn’t having any of that from Scott, instantly responding with: “Are they?”

Interestingly, just before Scott made her comment, Neville also made a case for West Ham, saying: “A bit better West Ham.”

Man City challenge another level for West Ham

West Ham have drawn three and lost two of their previous five top-flight games heading into Saturday’s meeting with City.

Nuno’s men twice led against Aston Villa last time out, before Morgan Rogers – who had already scored the equaliser – produced an excellent strike to hand the visitors all three points.

Prior to that, West Ham were able to take points from both Brighton and Manchester United, and were far from disgraced when falling to Liverpool either.

November also saw the Irons claim wins over Newcastle and Burnley, and take a point from their travels to Bournemouth, so there are signs that Nuno is close to cracking the code.

However, there aren’t many bigger top-flight tests than taking on Man City at the Etihad, with the Citizens winning seven of their eight games there so far this season.

It’s a huge ask, but if West Ham can get something from Saturday’s match, it could well be the catalyst for a turnaround, and solid proof that Nuno is the man to lead the club to safety.
