Antonio wants striker to rival his position at West Ham

West Ham United’s top goalscorer Michail Antonio is keen to see a new face at the London Stadium and he wants it to be someone who can rival his place.

The 31-year-old has scored eight goals in the Premier League this season with five assists to his name too having helped the Hammers to fifth in the table.

A new striker has indeed been on David Moyes’ shortlist but as of yet, no offers have been made and any incomings are some way away.

“One thing that we definitely need is a striker, and the crazy thing is I’m the striker, so somebody is going to come in and try to take my spot,” Antonio said on the Footballer’s Football Podcast.

“But I like a challenge, I like having someone there pushing me, even if they take my spot, I believe I can get it back, it gives me that hunger and that drive. It makes me play better because I need to play well to stay in the team,”

Positive Mindset

A lot of players wouldn’t dream of hoping for a signing who could threaten their place in the first team and even fewer would openly admit they needed it.

This open and honest stance that Antonio has long adopted has seen him receive plaudits from football fans worldwide and the positive outlook he has on a new striker depicts this.

He is choosing to view a potential new threat as an opportunity rather than a problem and should West Ham get an addition through the door, you would imagine Antonio would be one of the first to welcome whoever it may be.

The Jamaican’s glass-half-full attitude could also be a reason for his meteoric rise to stardom in the Premier League that has endeared him to West Ham fans.
