Angers president reveals transfer stance as West Ham United eye move for Azzedine Ounahi

Angers president Said Chabane has confirmed that the club are looking to cash in on West Ham target Azzedine Ounahi in January.

The 22-year-old has made headlines at the World Cup with Morocco and his stock has never been higher than it currently is.

Per 90 Min [16 December], along with the Hammers, Leicester, Newcastle, Southampton, Wolves and Atalanta are also known to be interested in the midfielder while Barcelona, Inter, Juventus, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain have sent scouts to track him.

Chabane told RTL France, “We have had many offers for him, from big and medium-sized clubs. They have come from all over, from Italy, Spain, England and France.

“Our wish is to find an agreement in January, but also that he can remain until the end of the season.”

If David Moyes has decided to play Lucas Paqueta in an advanced role, he needs to prioritise signing another midfielder in January.

Tomas Soucek clearly does not have it anymore and we would like to see Ounahi coming to the London Stadium, but it’s going to be tough.

With the World Cup he’s had, there are going to be clubs looking to secure his services and if he does have the chance to join a Champions League side, he might take it.

However, if the Hammers have a chance to sign Ounahi, they must take it as he will be a perfect midfield partner to Declan Rice.

He’s press resistant, is able to take players on and does have that killer pass in him – three impressive skills for a player who’s just 22.

Even Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the midfielder and he said, “Their number 8, the young boy that plays in France in Angers, Ounahi was absolutely incredible. So, they have players, a coach and an incredible spirit.”

He’d undoubtedly be a solid acquisition for West Ham and we’re hoping it happens.
