Andy Townsend makes suggestion on what Mark Noble should do after West Ham farewell

Andy Townsend believes Mark Noble should leave West Ham and go elsewhere if he wants to progress with his coaching career after retiring at the end of this season.

The club stalwart is hanging up his boots after 18 years at the club and a move to coaching has been mooted.

However, former Chelsea midfielder Townsend believes Noble would benefit from time away from West Ham if he wants to progress his coaching career.

Talking on talkSPORT drivetime Townsend said: “If it was me in his shoes and he wants to stay in the game, he will want to get his badges.

“If he wants to try and work under Moyes or part of that team, I don’t think it would be a bad thing to come out of there and go somewhere else.”

He added: “Lots of guys when they came out the game they go do a bit of travelling around Europe.

“They go and watch what they do at Real Madrid and watch what they do at Barcelona and that sort of stuff can be great for you.

“Not just knowing what you do in your own back yard.”

Good move for Noble

This would be an excellent decision for Noble but shouldn’t be it shouldn’t be made hastily.

He needs time away from football after a long playing career but a future move into coaching would seem the next logical step.

He is a leader and certainly has the respect of plenty of people from within the game.

However, if he was to merely remain at West Ham and learn of everything he already knows it wouldn’t be beneficial to his future coaching aspirations.

Noble needs to learn how management and coaching work away from West Ham.

The West Ham legend would do well to look at the examples set by Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.

Both England midfielders took the decision to move away from Chelsea and Liverpool.

Their stints are Rangers and Derby are key reasons why they are now working in established Premier League jobs.

Maybe Noble looking into an EFL coaching role would be an excellent start to his coaching career
