Andy Townsend drools over West Ham United striker Michail Antonio v Tottenham

West Ham are trailing 1-0 at the break with Thilo Kehrer scoring an own goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League clash on Wednesday (31 August) at the London Stadium.

Michail Antonio came close to scoring for the home side, and Andy Townsend has hailed him as “brilliant”.

However, just before the break, Spurs created a good chance, and Kehrer was unlucky to guide the ball into his own net.

“He is brilliant. You have got to say, he was so unlucky not to get that goal,” said Townsend (24th min) while commentating on the game for the Premier League World Feed.

Need more energy

The Hammers need to show more energy on the pitch and play with intensity.

There were moments in the game where the Hammers enjoyed an upper hand, and created some good chances.

In the first half, Spurs were given a penalty that the ball appeared to have hit Aaron Cresswell’s arm, but the decision was reverted after a thorough video check.

The best chance fell to Antonio, who started the game in the absence of Gianluca Scamacca.

The Hammers striker got the ball 25 yards out, shuffled onto his right foot and curled a beautiful delivery past Hugo Lloris, but it cannoned off the post.

We need more dynamism in the second half. The discipline was there, but to win a derby match you need to create more chances.

Having said that Spurs are in good form at the moment. It won’t be easy, but at home, we should be testing Lloris more. We need to press hard and move the ball quickly.
