Andy Gray hits out after controversial West Ham v Brentford footage today

Andy Gray was disgusted after controversial footage emerged from West Ham’s 1-0 defeat to Brentford.

West Ham failed to impress against Brentford with the Irons failing to pose any real threat throughout the entirety of the clash with the visitors deserving of all three points.

Graham Potter’s side were perhaps fortunate to have only been a goal down in the first half after Brentford had two goals disallowed for offside.

However, it was an incident in the dying stages of the game that left a sour taste in the mouth of Gray.

Just as the Bees were looking to see out the game, they did so with the use of the dark arts, leaving Gray fuming.

Mark Flekken, after merely being brushed by Mohammed Kudus in the box, went down holding his face in an attempt to deceive the referee.

Commentating via beIN SPORTS 1 (15 February, 5:00pm), Gray said: “Come on goalie. Come on. Goodness me.”

Flekken’s play-acting was nothing short of embarrassing and certainly deserving of the disgusted reaction from Gray, though West Ham have no one else to blame but themselves for the result.

West Ham must improve from Brentford showing

The Irons didn’t deserve anything from the game, with players like Lucas Paqueta criminally underperforming which has been the case on far too many occasions so far this season.

Ultimately that is what got Julen Lopetegui sacked, with very little improvement seen in their performances since the appointment of Graham Potter.

With just 10 points separating West Ham from the relegation zone, performances need to improve drastically or else they have every possibility of being dragged down into a dogfight, which when taking into account the level of players in the squad, should not be happening.

However, unless improvements are made, that is the harsh reality of the season the Irons are enduring and as things stand, there have been very few signs to suggest anything is going to change in the immediate future.

An away encounter with Arsenal is up next for the Hammers, which without that improvement, could turn very ugly, very quickly.
