Ally McCoist shares hopeful Brighton and Aston Villa verdict after what West Ham United did

Ally McCoist believes the likes of Aston Villa and Brighton can take inspiration from West Ham after they lifted this season’s Europa Conference League trophy.

The Hammers defeated Italian outfit Fiorentina 2-1 in Prague earlier this month in the final of the competition.

And McCoist has suggested that they have done other English clubs a “massive favour” ahead of next season’s European competitions.

“West Ham have done everybody a massive favour by winning that Conference League,” McCoist said live on talkSPORT.

“I was delighted for Manchester City winning the Champions League, but there was something about West Ham winning that cup. It’s given everybody hope; the Brightons, the Aston Villas.”

Massive win

It was an unforgettable night in Prague for everyone connected with West Ham, with the Premier League side digging deep to defeat Serie A outfit Fiorentina.

The nerves were understandable, but David Moyes’s men produced a professional display to lift the trophy and help create an unforgettable moment for the East London side.

The achievement was made even more impressive given the club’s struggles in domestic competitions.

But two clubs that enjoyed superb Premier League campaigns were Aston Villa and Brighton, both of which secured European football thanks to their phenomenal displays in the English top flight.

Both clubs can definitely look to the Hammers for inspiration when they begin their European adventures in the new campaign, with Villa and Brighton certainly boasting squads that are more than capable of doing serious damage against top European opposition.

But Villa and the Seagulls will need to bring in a few new faces to help them compete on all fronts next season.
