Ally McCoist says he’s never seen this better at West Ham after draw vs Man United – ‘Tremendous’

West Ham fans were left heartbroken with the 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Tuesday.

Tomas Soucek scored in the 50th minute to give the Hammers a deserved lead, and they held on for the majority of the second half, with Casemiro having a goal ruled out for offside.

But their resistance was finally broken in stoppage time when Benjamin Sesko scored a brilliant volley to level the scoreline.

West Ham’s draw with Man United leaves them in the Premier League relegation zone, two points adrift of Nottingham Forest in 17th, who play Wolves on Wednesday.

Although the home fans will be gutted with the manner of the draw, Ally McCoist was certainly impressed with the role they played at the London Stadium.

Ally McCoist left stunned by the atmosphere during West Ham vs Man United

The attendance at the London Stadium was 62,473, and every supporter made themselves heard under the lights.

Although the fans were bitterly disappointed with conceding such a late goal, they’ll be thrilled with the effort that their side showed.

Having won 10 points in their last five league matches, it’s clear that Nuno’s tactics are finally working, and the fans are recognising they have a great chance of staying up again.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 11 February, McCoist, who was at the London Stadium doing commentary for TNT Sports, was full of praise for the home fans.

He said: “What I noticed about the stadium last night, West Ham fans are right behind their team. It might be the best I’ve ever heard the place.

“In terms of a team that is united with the fans off the pitch, that was it from West Ham last night. I thought it was a tremendous atmosphere.”

The London Stadium has often been criticised for its atmosphere, and it was nice to see a major pundit finally speaking about it positively.

Can Nuno turn around West Ham’s woes at the London Stadium?

Ultimately, the ground has been at the centre of problems around the club, and if West Ham were to be relegated, it would become completely soulless.

There were protests against David Sullivan for the home matches against Brentford, Crystal Palace and Newcastle earlier in the season regarding his decisions over the years.

The most costly one was the move away from Upton Park, and the Hammers have never truly settled into their new home.

However, the atmosphere against Man United was certainly the best we’ve seen since David Moyes was in charge and West Ham were in Europe.

It has been incredibly tough to galvanise the crowd at times, but Nuno seems to be doing so with the team’s current performances.

If the Hammers continue to secure crucial points, then the fans will definitely be more vocal as the season progresses.
