Ally McCoist says he 'wouldn't last a month' into Declan Rice's eight-year West Ham contract offer
Declan Rice’s eight-year West Ham contract offer was laughed at by talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist, with the Scot suggesting he “wouldn’t last a month”.
As reported by talkSPORT on Wednesday [11, May], West Ham have offered Rice an eight-year deal worth £200,000 a week.
Talking on talkSPORT breakfast on Thursday [12, May] McCoist and fellow Scot Alan Brazil couldn’t help but hold back the smiles.
McCoist said: “I’m telling you, you and I would last a month into that contract.”
Brazil responded: “I’d be dead!
“200k a week, see you later, have a good life!”
Use that money elsewhere
West Ham would be far better using this money to improve their squad.
Declan Rice is a superb talent, there is no doubting that, but they must try and provide David Moyes with some much-needed squad depth.
The Hammers were out on their feet in their Europa League semi-final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
If they had more depth in central defence and up front then there was no reason why they couldn’t have made it to the final in Sevilla.
By committing such a large proportion of their wage structure to Rice the Hammers’ hierarchy are neglecting other vital areas of their squad that desperately needs improving.
It has been another successful season for Moyes’ men.
If they are to continue the club’s upward trajectory, then they should use the money offered to Rice to put add some quality additions to compliment the England international.
West Ham have been linked with some high-profile names, it is now time for the board to deliver.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers keen to sign highly-rated defender with £44m release clause.
