Ally McCoist hits out at West Ham United amid David Moyes sack questions following win v Arsenal
Ally McCoist has insisted he cannot understand why anybody would want David Moyes to leave West Ham after what he has done for the club, following a 2-0 win against Arsenal at The Emirates.
The Rangers legend claimed it would be a massive gamble for the Hammers to move on from Moyes at the end of his contract as there are no guarantees that the decision would prove a successful one.
McCoist pointed to the fact West Ham have finished 6th, 7th, 14th and are now 6th under the manager’s guidance, as well as the Europa Conference League win.

Speaking live on Prime Video [28 December, 22:13], McCoist explained: “I don’t get it. I don’t understand it. The only complaint I could see is sometimes they might not play the open, expansive football that West Ham supporters would sometimes like to see.
“I don’t know. I feel like West Ham at this moment in time are on the crest of a wave. They’ve finished 6th, 7th, 14th and now back into 6th under David Moyes. They won a trophy last year which was fantastic.
“I’ll tell you right now, if they do replace him at the end of the season, it is a big, big gamble, a massive gamble because there are no guarantees and I would be surprised.”
Moyes deserves more respect
Whether or not he is handed a new deal is up to the board, with reports suggesting that they want to move in a new direction after the Moyes era regardless of what happens this season, the boss deserves to be given more respect than he has been this season.
Calls for his head after every underwhelming result have been an underlying noise despite some impressive victories, including back-to-back wins against Manchester United and Arsenal either side of Christmas.

While the style of football may not be pretty, open and expansive, it gets results, and that’s what should matter in football. As McCoist suggested, the league finishes and the trophy he has got to show for it proves exactly how well Moyes has done in East London.
If he is to leave at the end of this season, he should be applauded and thanked as the hugely important figure he has been in the history of this club, with his spell at the London Stadium unlikely to be topped any time soon. After all, the grass isn’t always greener.
