Ally McCoist absolutely loved ‘brilliant’ Lucas Paqueta goal as West Ham United man stars at World Cup for Brazil

Ally McCoist has been waxing lyrical about West Ham star Lucas Paqueta after his goal for Brazil in the World Cup round of 16 win against South Korea.

The Hammers midfielder rounded off a stunning first-half performance with a volley from just inside the penalty area as Brazil steamrolled into the quarter-finals with a 4-1 win on the night.

Three of the Brazil goals came after excellent bits of play and McCoist, who was speaking on talkSPORT’s breakfast show (6 December, 6:56am) picked out Paqueta’s goal as a moment of magic.

“Vinicius’ goal was brilliant,” he said.

“The goals just got better, and better and better. Richarlison’s goal was amazing. Paqueta’s goal was a brilliant volley.”

Superb

In case you were wondering why West Ham spent over £50m on bringing Paqueta from Lyon to the London Stadium, now you know.

The midfielder has been decent for the Irons so far since joining, but he initially struggled with the pace and physicality of the league before getting injured and finding himself in and out of the team.

West Ham

But his role at West Ham has been different, with David Moyes playing him in a more advanced number ten role with Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek sitting behind him.

That seemingly takes away a big aspect of his game, which is his driving runs from deep and passing through the lines, and it should certainly be something that Moyes is looking at changing up when the season resumes in the Premier League.

Paqueta is a superstar in the making, and we’re absolutely delighted that he is wearing claret and blue whenever he isn’t in the famous yellow and green.
