All parties expect Declan Rice to quit West Ham United after what David Moyes said – Fabrizio Romano
The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano has claimed “all parties” expect Declan Rice to leave West Ham United in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old has been attracting the attention of Arsenal in recent weeks and Chelsea are still keen on the England international, despite completing the signing of Enzo Fernandez (Simon Phillips, writing on his Substack account, 2 February).
David Moyes suggested after the draw against Newcastle United that Rice will recoup a “British record” transfer fee when he departs the London Stadium, and Romano has revealed that could happen this summer (Roshane Thomas, 4 February).
“All parties expect Declan Rice to leave in the summer after refusing to sign a new deal 14 months ago,” wrote Romano (via Twitter, 5 February).
World-class
Rice’s performance against Newcastle was yet more evidence to suggest the West Ham captain is destined to play in the Champions League. The Magpies are flying at the moment and it was always going to be a tough task heading to the North East and picking up three points.
The Hammers were good value for their point and the result shows this team is capable of competing against some of the best teams in the Premier League. The challenge now is for Moyes’ men to produce these types of performances on a consistent basis.

Chelsea and Tottenham are coming up for the Hammers in what is proving to be a tricky spell of fixtures. Although it was a well-earned point against Newcastle, Moyes’ side are still far too close to the drop zone.
Despite Rice’s future remaining in serious doubt, it’s essential the England international continues to perform to his best to give the Irons the best chance of avoiding a relegation battle come the season’s end.
