Alex Crook: Armando Broja 'definite target' for West Ham United despite Chelsea stance

Chelsea striker Armando Broja is a “definite” target for West Ham United according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

The Daily Mail reported on 6 June that West Ham have joined Everton, Napoli and Inter Milan in eying a move for Broja.

However, it has since been claimed by TUTTOmercatoWEB on 8 June that Chelsea are keen to keep the 21-year-old Albanian at Stamford Bridge for the 2022/23 season.

Regardless of Chelsea’s stance on the striker, Crook believes that there is still “definite” interest in the striker from the Hammers.

Talking to GIVEMESPORT on 12 June, the talkSPORT journalist said: “They [West Ham] want to strengthen up front.

“Interestingly, Emmanuel Dennis and Armando Broja, who had a good first half of the season but tailed off, I think Saints maybe backed off a little bit in terms of trying to get him back on loan.

“I think he’s a definite target, and obviously we know they want at least one centre-back as well.”

Broja splits opinion

Broja to West Ham is a transfer that has pros and cons.

With a mooted £25million price tag for the forward, he will be expected to hit the ground running at the London Stadium and his second half of the season at St Mary’s was fairly uninspiring.

However, there are some big pros to signing the young Albanian striker.

He is only 20 and still has at least five years of development in him, and under the stewardship of David Moyes, there is no reason why he cannot go on to be a prolific player for the Hammers.

Furthermore, the Irons are desperate for a striker to rival Michail Antonio.

West Ham rarely struggled for goals last season but there was a definite drop-off in performance due to the number of games the Irons were involved in.

If Moyes had the option to rotate and keep his squad fresh then there would’ve been every chance the Hammers would’ve potentially ended the season with some silverware.

Broja would certainly be given plenty of chances at the London Stadium and could thrive off service from Jarrod Bowen.

Moyes should be pursuing Broja but for no more than the £25million asking price.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been told to sign this “silky” Premier League ace this summer.
