Alan Shearer slams ‘terrible’ West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta after what happened v Tottenham
Alan Shearer has slammed Lucas Paqueta for his missed opportunity to draw West Ham level before half-time in the 2-1 victory against Tottenham on 7 December.
Mohammed Kudus got the ball on the right-hand side and beat his man before whipping the ball to the back post where Paqueta was waiting, but he sent his header disappointingly wide.
Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer, couldn’t believe what he was seeing, praising Kudus for his work in creating the chance but slammed the Brazilian for the miss.

Commentating live on Amazon Prime Video [7 December, 08:59pm], Shearer fumed: “Really good play on the right-hand side from Kudus, really strong, kept his concentration, then did the difficult thing of finding the right cross.
“Paqueta at the far post I’m thinking ‘Go on, go and throw yourself at that and get it on target.’ It was a terrible header, an awful header. Wonderful cross in though.”
A disappointing performance
Despite the final score and hugely impressive win for the Hammers, Paqueta’s performance and this miss in particular were a huge disappointment. Had the Hammers not capitalised on the gifted opportunities, they would have looked at that miss as a key moment.
Overall Paqueta was a disappointment in what was a strong performance all around from West Ham, struggling to influence the game going forward while being far too soft when tracking back and helping out his defensive players.

After a win away against Tottenham, though, any negativity will quickly be forgotten in favour of the delight at the result, and he will be able to move on and give his best in the next game to help the Hammers keep their good run of form going.
With his form so far this season proving his worth more than ever alongside the ever-impressive Jarrod Bowen, he can be forgiven for one poor result as long as he bounces back quickly.
In other West Ham news, Tottenham fans laughed at what the Hammers were singing.
