Alan Shearer shares what he really thinks about West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen
Alan Shearer has labelled West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen as ‘terrific’ after his performance in the win against Southampton.
The 28-year-old scored the only goal as the Hammers beat the relegation strugglers at St. Mary’s Stadium on Boxing Day (26 November).
The England international has been the Irons’ best player so far this season and he shined again on the south coast as he dragged his side to a second win in four matches.
Speaking on Match of the Day [26 December], Shearer waxed lyrically about the former Hull City star, saying: “Whether is it him scoring goals, whether it is him doing that and tracking back, he doesn’t half put a shift in.
“The goal that he actually gets, his movement is terrific, it is the movement of a really top-class centre forward.
“The way he bursts to get on the end of it, the defenders can’t keep up with him and ultimately he gets the points for West Ham again.”
Bowen thriving despite poor West Ham start
The Hammers ace has established himself as one of the most dangerous players in the Premier League despite playing in a poor team.
Julen Lopetegui’s side have underwhelmed so far this season but are currently on a four-match unbeaten streak in the league.
That is largely down to Bowen, who scored the winning goals against Wolves and Southampton and it was his effort that was saved into the path of Mohammed Kudus for the equaliser against Brighton.
He has been linked with a move to Liverpool if Mohamed Salah leaves the Merseyside club upon the expiry of his contract, according to Roshane Thomas. [The Athletic, 27 December].
The Hammers must do everything that they can to stop Bowen from leaving the London Stadium as he is integral to any hopes of a successful season.
It is unfathomable to think where they would be without the former Hereford man’s contributions.
