Alan Shearer shares ‘devastating’ Jarrod Bowen admission in new West Ham United verdict
Alan Shearer has been blown away by the “devastating” form of Jarrod Bowen this season, naming the West Ham United star in his Premier League team of the season so far.
The England international has been the spearhead of David Moyes’ attack this season, scoring a remarkable 11 goals in 19 League appearances as the Irons have qualified for the Europa League knockout stages and currently sit sixth in the table.
For much of the campaign so far, the 27-year-old has been deployed out of position as a centre-forward. But he has still managed to thrive in his new role and Shearer has been impressed by his “clinical” edge in front of goal.

Writing for the Premier League’s website (8 January) he said: “A clinical finisher who has been devastating for a West Ham side who thrive on the counter-attack.”
Devastating
Before a ball was kicked this season, most West Ham United supporters were concerned that the Hammers didn’t have a genuine number nine in their ranks, capable of scoring 20 goals a season to fire them into the European places.
However, that fear has been banished quite quickly thanks to the incredible form of Bowen. Not only has the 27-year-old been one of the Irons’ best players this season, he has been one of the Premier League’s brightest talents.

While Bowen has always been capable of the spectacular, he has always struggled for consistency in the final third but this season he has added that element of “devastating” ruthlessness to his game to find a clinical edge inside the penalty area.
Hopefully, the England winger will be able to remain fit and available for the remainder of the season and can keep finding the net with the same consistency that he has done so far. If he manages that, he’ll have a chance of making Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad, let alone Shearer’s team of the season.
