Alan Shearer reacts to West Ham United Conference League win v Fiorentina

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has reacted after West Ham United beat Fiorentina 2-1 in the final of the Conference League in Prague.

Goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen saw David Moyes’ side to a memorable victory over the Serie A club ending their long wait without a piece of silverware.

Shearer took to Twitter after the game to send his congratulations to the West Ham boss.

“Well done West Ham, well done David Moyes. A great man who deserves this,” he wrote (via Twitter, 7 June).

Moyes’ terms

Moyes’ next move should be completely on his terms. He’s reached new heights with the Hammers. He’s taken them to a Europa League semi-final, new heights in the Premier League and now Conference League glory. It’s important West Ham fans remember where they were before he took over.

Yes, the league campaign has been disappointing, but it’s clear where the focus has been. West Ham knew this competition was a golden chance to put a trophy in the cabinet.

Much has also been made about Moyes’ future.

There have been numerous calls for the Scot to be sacked over the course of the campaign. If he feels he’s taken the club as far as he can, then he should be allowed to step down.

But, if he feels he can rediscover the Hammers’ league form, he should be given the backing required during the summer. The Hammers have historically been top-flight strugglers. Surviving has been the club’s main aim for the majority of its existence. Moyes has bucked that trend.
