Alan Shearer raises new West Ham United concern after what happened v Everton

Alan Shearer is concerned about West Ham United after they played out a 0-0 draw with Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The BBC pundit reckons the Irons lacked moments of quality against Sean Dyche’s side at the London Stadium on 9 November as the two teams shared the spoils.

Shearer pointed out that the East London outfit sitting fourteenth in the league after spending over £100million in the summer is worrisome.

“If I was a West Ham fan, I would be concerned about West Ham because if you look at where they are now, when you look at the signings they had in the summer, spent a right few quid, at the minute, they are certainly not better than what they were last season”, Shearer said on BBC Match of the Day (9 November).

“When you look at those players and the fees that have been paid for them, I would be slightly concerned where West Ham are.”

Alan Shearer right about West Ham United after draw v Everton

Shearer is right about West Ham’s situation being worrisome as the team’s performances under Julen Lopetegui have much to be desired.

The Hammers hoped the Spaniard would be able to take them to greater heights when they replaced David Moyes with him in the summer and splurged over £100million on nine new signings.

Instead, they now find themselves looking down the barrel as they sit just six points above the relegation zone, having won just three of their 11 games so far.

There have been increasing shouts to sack Lopetegui amid the team’s poor performances, but he maintains the hierarchy’s support for now.

It had been known before Saturday that the result against Everton would not affect the tactician’s job (The Telegraph), meaning he will be in charge of the side when club football resumes after the international break.

The Hammers visit Newcastle on 25 November after the break, but it remains to be seen if the club’s stance over Lopetegui will change in the meantime.

In other West Ham news, this Portugal international has emerged as a transfer target for the Irons ahead of January.
