Alan Shearer puts Lukasz Fabianski in PL team of the week after Chelsea Display
Alan Shearer included Lukasz Fabianski in his official Premier League team of the week after the goalkeeper’s heroics for West Ham against Chelsea.
The Hammers lost 1-0 to a late Christian Pulisic strike after rotating the side heavily with the Europa League semi-final in mind, with Fabianski making several key stops to keep them in the contest for so long.
The day looked set to end in frustration when Craig Dawson was sent off for dragging back Romelu Lukaku in the area, but Jorginho could only role the resulting penalty straight into the arms of the Polish shot-stopper.
Writing on the official Premier League website, the league’s all-time top scorer simply put “Made plenty of good saves in the 1-0 defeat at Chelsea and didn’t deserve to lose.”

With a much-changed side West Ham came mightily close to picking up another important result in the quest for European football next season.
However it is completely understandable from David Moyes’ perspective why he rested many of his star players with the Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt representing a once in a lifetime opportunity for the club to take one step closer to continental silverware.
Add to that lifting the trophy in Seville would see the Irons qualify for next season’s Champions League and the Chelsea result will be the last thing on anyone’s minds.
The context of the defeat is the only real disappointment, but frustration over a late loss at Stamford Bridge demonstrates just how far the club has come in such a short space of time.
From Fabianski’s point of view, he’s now put himself in the frame for a start on Thursday night, with Alphonse Areola usually preferred in goal for continental ties.
Whoever Moyes opts to go with if his side can go and win the Europa League they will be immortalised in Hammers folklore forevermore.
In other West Ham news, a journalist says the club need to be careful if they decide to pursue this former star.
