Alan Shearer predicts scoreline of West Ham United v Manchester United

Alan Shearer has predicted West Ham will secure victory when they host Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday (27 October).

Failure to win could prove detrimental to both Julen Lopetegui and Ten Hag, although it is the Manchester United boss who faces the most pressure [Jason Cundy, 24 October].

Shearer alluded to the most recent clash between the two sides at the London Stadium when making his prediction.

Writing for The Metro [25 October], he said: “West Ham, with the atmosphere at the London Stadium, may have enough to take the points on Sunday just as they did in their last home game against Manchester United last season.

“I am going to pick West Ham to win.”

The former Newcastle United striker also mentioned the unpredictability of Manchester United and their results so far this season.

A win for West Ham would be huge for Julen Lopetegui

Despite the spotlight perhaps being on Ten Hag for this game, Lopetegui needs a result just as much. His side sit 15th in the table having endured a bad start to the Premier League campaign.

The absence of Mohammed Kudus will certainly hinder the Hammers’ ability to get a result despite the forward also struggling to find his best form so far this season.

The Hammers have already been linked with succession plans should Lopetegui face the sack, with a certain Jose Mourinho being touted as a potential replacement should the Spaniard leave the club he only joined in the summer.

If they can replicate last season’s result, it should inspire supporters and players that they can still have a successful campaign under Lopetegui.

However, failure to do so will more than likely have a complete reverse effect and could see them drop even further down the table.

In other West Ham news, Callum Marshall has made a point to Julen Lopetegui that he wants to return to the first team after his Huddersfield Town loan.
