Alan Shearer names West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd in Premier League TOTW after 1-0 win v Manchester United
Alan Shearer has named West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd in his Premier League team of the week after their 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday [7 May].
A howler from David de Gea gifted West Ham victory over Manchester United to all but confirm their Premier League status for next season, as they now sit seven points off the drop zone with three games left.
The Hammers were incredibly solid in their crucial win over the Red Devils and had Aguerd to thank for another dominant showing up against the likes of Marcus Rashford and Wout Weghorst.
And such a performance has rewarded the Moroccan international with a spot on Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week [9 May].
He said: “To keep Man Utd’s front three anonymous in such an important match was no mean feat.”
Impressive
West Ham United were mightily impressive over Manchester United on Sunday in what was a crucial game for David Moyes and his side to pull well clear of the relegation drop zone and they did so in an assured and consummate fashion.
Erik ten Hag’s were barely given a sniff in the final third all throughout the game because of the Hammers’ steady and dogged resistance and Aguerd was central to those efforts.

The Moroccan has grown considerably in the team since his summer move, arguably becoming one of Moyes’ most crucial players and will almost certainly become a leader at the London Stadium in the near future, especially with several of their key stars set to leave this summer, including captain Declan Rice.
Whoever comes in to potentially replace Moyes at the helm will need big-game players they can trust to set the standard in the West Ham United dressing room and Aguerd will certainly be high on that list of crucial players.
With the Moroccan at the heart of their defence for the foreseeable, the Irons are in very capable and solid hands moving forward. A deserved inclusion into Shearer’s Team of the Week.
