Alan Shearer names Lingard in team of the week after West Ham draw v Arsenal

West Ham attacker Jesse Lingard has been named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League team of the week after his dazzling first-half display against Arsenal on Sunday.

Lingard has been outstanding since joining on loan from Manchester United in the January window. He scored his fifth goal for the club and got his second assist in just seven matches. It’s this sort of form that has rightly seen him called up for the England squad again.

In his column for the Premier League, Shearer praised our number 11 for his latest brilliant performance. He said: “An outstanding goal, an assist and another great display in this brilliant loan spell for Man United’s winger at West Ham.

Sign him up

The 28-year-old scored a belter to give us a one-goal lead after 15 minutes. His half volley from 20 yards flew past Bernd Leno into the top corner, easily one of our goals of the season.

Lingard then turned provider for our second. Just three minutes after opening the scoring, the England international took a quick freekick whilst the Gunners back-line went to sleep. Jarrod Bowen latched onto his pass and slotted under Leno for 2-0.

His form has been remarkable since joining. We simply have to sign him down to a permanent deal in the summer. There’s a lot of talk at the moment about Lingard and rightly so, he’s been excellent.

West Ham

Manchester United might even want to keep him on this form, but that would be wrong in our opinion. He was left out in the cold by them, deemed surplus to requirements and more to less banished from the squad.

Joining West Ham has given him his confidence back, he’s loving his football again. So long as Bruno Fernandes is at Old Trafford, there isn’t really a future there for Lingard. He can take the Hammers into Europe on this kind of form, without a doubt.

There would be an uproar if he were to join another club now. Surely, David Gold and David Sullivan will put their hands in their pockets and sign him properly.
