Alan Shearer names four West Ham players in Premier League Team of the Week

Alan Shearer has selected an incredible four West Ham players in his Premier League Team of the Week.

Craig Dawson, Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Jesse Lingard all made Shearer’s XI as West Ham ran out 2-1 winners over Spurs.

It was a huge result for the Hammers, which saw them open up a nine-point gap over Mourinho’s men. They’re now five points ahead of Liverpool and Everton, and sit one place above Chelsea who are fifth.

Whilst giving his team of the week for the Premier League official website, Shearer praised four of our star men.

On Dawson, Shearer said, “The 30-year-old was once again superb at the back for the high-flying Hammers.”

Shearer said Rice was “Relentless. He made a couple of brilliant clearances when West Ham were under pressure.”

He said that Soucek is forming a “brilliant” partnership with Rice and on Lingard said, “Scored again. Looks set to be a magnificent signing by David Moyes.”

West Ham

A big statement

We made a lot of teams sit up and take notice on Sunday.

The Hammers were outstanding against Spurs. Despite letting them have most of the play, we were so solid at the back that they weren’t able to damage us.

It can be argued that yes, we rode our luck and have the woodwork to thank. But you make your own luck, and if you’re playing well then things do tend to go for you.

Shearer was right to give praise to these four, in particular. Dawson has been incredible since coming into the side in December. He was written off before even pulling the shirt on, but what a shrewd signing he’s turned out to be. A hero at West Ham.

Rice and Soucek were outstanding, again. Our top goalscorer and captain are deservedly receiving plaudits at the moment. We’ll need these two to perform on Saturday at the Etihad if we’re to take anything.

Lingard has been a breath of fresh air at the London Stadium. We could well have begun to fall off at this point, but his addition to the squad seems to have pushed us on.

Of the four games he’s played, Lingard has won us two on his own and won a penalty to get us on our way against Sheffield United.

The two loan deals for Dawson and Lingard need to be made permanent as soon as the summer window opens. Hopefully, we can then push on with some signings for the 2021/22 campaign.

In other West Ham news, today marks 28 years since the icon, Bobby Moore passed away.
