Alan Shearer makes new David Moyes admission as West Ham United confirm summer exit
Alan Shearer has admitted that he believes West Ham United should have treated David Moyes with more respect and announced his exit earlier.
The Hammers have confirmed that the Scotsman will depart the London Stadium at the end of the season and the expiry of his contract, with Julen Lopetegui appearing to be the frontrunner to take over the reins.
While Moyes himself has admitted it was the right time for both parties to move on, Shearer has slammed the Irons for their treatment of the 61-year-old and made a prediction over his next job.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football (10 May, 33:45) he said: “I think at last he got the respect that he deserved and there was clarity in what was happening because he deserved that.
“He didn’t deserve to keep on reading about them interviewing somebody for a job when he was already sat in the manager’s office, he didn’t deserve that. He deserved more respect. He’s done an unbelievable job at West Ham, he’s delivered success for them and I get that some wanted rid of him.
“You’ve got to take fan’s opinions into consideration but he deserves great respect. He’ll get a really good job somewhere Moysey because of what he’s achieved and who he is.”
Will Julen Lopetegui replace David Moyes at West Ham United this summer?
No Hammers supporter doubts the fact that Moyes did an excellent job across his two spells with the football club, but that doesn’t mean that the Scotsman deserves to extend his stay for another 12 months.
Results in the Premier League over the last two seasons have been nowhere near good enough and there is a general feeling around the fanbase that a new manager would be able to get more out of this current crop of players.

Could the Irons have handled their search for a successor with a bit more grace? Absolutely, but had they left their negotiations until after Moyes’ exit was confirmed they would have been slammed for not planning ahead.
Ultimately, those in charge of the club simply couldn’t win in this scenario. Hopefully, Moyes will get the sendoff he deserves an appointment will then be made in due course.
