Alan Shearer in agreement with Gary Lineker over West Ham United Premier League prediction

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker agree with their West Ham United prediction for the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The pundits gave their Premier League predictions on The Rest is Football podcast [16 August, 41m 49s], with the co-hosts agreeing that the Hammers could challenge for a European place this season.

West Ham have backed Julen Lopetegui in the transfer market this summer to restore continental football to East London.

Linekar said on West Ham: “I quite like the look of what they’ve spent I can see them challenging for Europe just missing out so mid table.”

Shearer added: “Agreed, I’ve got them just better, what did you say they were last season ninth? I’ve got them maybe a little bit better than that – maybe eighth? Eighth or ninth?”

West Ham to challenge for the European spots this season

West Ham have emerged as the dark horses ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season with an impressive summer overhaul of the squad.

Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Guido Rodriguez, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have all arrived at the London Stadium to immediately challenge for a starting berth.

The Irons after a collection of shrewd deals [talkSPORT], have been transformed into genuine contenders for the European places this season and have put together an exciting, young, and talented squad.

David Moyes paid the price for missing out last term and, now Lopetegui, who in normal circumstances would have been allowed a transitional period in his debut season, is under immediate pressure to deliver [talkSPORT].

West Ham United-linked Julen Lopetegui

An eighth-placed finish could be enough this season, depending on the European co-efficient, for a return to the Europa Conference League, a competition the supporters know all too well after the 2023 triumph.

The Hammers could even aim to finish further up the league table and into the Europa League places if Lopetegui’s side gels together quickly, there is arguably no flaw in the side assembled in East London.

First, Lopetegui faces a tough test against Aston Villa on Saturday to start the season, and a win at the London Stadium would surely send a statement to the rest of the Premier League.
