Alan Shearer impressed by Jarrod Bowen's performance v Chelsea
West Ham ran out 3-2 winners against Chelsea on Saturday, and Alan Shearer was impressed by Jarrod Bowen’s performance.
The attacker bagged the Hammers’ second goal at the London Stadium at the weekend (4 December), and the Premier League’s highest goalscorer of all time included him in his official Team of the Week for matchday 15.
Bowen has now been involved in seven league goals this term, and he made a meal of the Blues backline to hand his side all deserved three points.
Shearer said while heaping praise on him: “He ran a seemingly unbeatable defence ragged and scored a superb goal.”
With three goals and four assists to his name in 15 appearances this season, the former Hull City star is proving crucial to David Moyes’ plans, and only Michail Antonio has been involved in more goals than him.
Chelsea had only shipped six league goals prior to their trip to the London Stadium, and it was the first time that they had conceded thrice in a game under Thomas Tuchel.
Bowen was at the heart of everything, with his pace and tricks proving difficult to handle by the Blues defence.
The West Ham ace showed exactly why he should be playing for England, and Gareth Southgate will be taking note.
He only needs to do it on a consistent basis and add more goals to his game, though.
Bowen missed out on November’s Three Lions squad, but he can be part of next year’s (2022) World Cup team if he ends the campaign on a high.
Everything is going well for him so far, and should he help West Ham to a top-four finish and silverware, ignoring him would be hard for the national team selectors.
