Alan Shearer gushes over West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen v Sheffield United

West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen is getting “better and better,” according to former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer.

The attacker scored his fifth goal in just seven league matches as the Hammers defeated Sheffield United 2-0 on Saturday (30 September).

Bowen scored the opening goal at the London Stadium, with Tomas Soucek netting a second for David Moyes’s side.

Naming Bowen in his Premier League Team of the Week, Shearer told the official Premier League website: “He just gets better and better with time. Another goal and a top performance.”

Phenomenal start

Bowen may not have been at his very best last season, but that was perhaps because he set such high standards the season before.

And now he is arguably in his best period yet for the Hammers, with the attacker producing goal after goal under Moyes.

He was involved in a truly wonderful goal against the Blades, with the hosts patient in their build-up before breaking into the final third.

There were plenty of players in claret and blue involved, with star man Bowen putting the finishing touch on the move with his expert strike.

The winger could have had more than one against the Blades, but he and his manager will still be content with his top display at the London Stadium.

It will be difficult for the England ace to keep up such displays as the season goes on and the schedule gets busier, but it would be foolish to underestimate Bowen at this point after his amazing start.

In other West Ham news, a Sky Sports journalist has mooted an international call-up for one “sensational” Hammers player.
