Alan Shearer blown away by what he saw in West Ham United v Newcastle United – ‘brilliant’

Alan Shearer was thrilled with Alexander Isak’s second goal for Newcastle United as they drew 2-2 with West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Isak bagged twice within five second-half minutes to put the Magpies ahead after Tomas Soucek had opened the scoring early on in the Premier League match.

Bruno Guimaraes, who was lucky to be on the pitch after escaping a potential second yellow card in the first half, passed the ball across to Kieran Tripper to volley a cross across the box for Isak to tap home with his first touch, leading to big praise from Shearer.

“Quality all around. Brilliant goal,” said Shearer via his personal Twitter account on 8 October.

11 versus 12

Peter Bankes’ refereeing performance handed the result to Newcastle, there’s no doubt about it.

Guimaraes should have seen red in the first half and if that happened, the second goal definitely wouldn’t have happened while it’s likely the first wouldn’t have either.

That was the worst decision Bankes made but there were other niggling ones that saw players get away with things that other players were booked for.

West Ham

It made it seem as though David Moyes’ men were always fighting a losing battle because the odds were firmly stacked against them based on the refereeing performance.

Moyes will be raging after that – and rightly so.

We heard Liverpool wanting a replay after a media frenzy over their disallowed goal against Liverpool last week. Will we see the same for West Ham?

It’s unlikely.

In other West Ham news, some Irons players are sad about the news that’s emerged about one of their teammates.
