Alan Shearer baffled by West Ham United investments after what he has seen
Alan Shearer insists things are not looking good at West Ham United currently despite their serious investment over the summer.
The Irons disappointed once again as they hobbled to a 0-0 draw against Everton at the London Stadium on 9 November in the Premier League.
Julen Lopetegui reinforced heavily with the likes of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Crysencio Summerville, but speaking on The Rest Is Football [11 November], Shearer shared his disappointment around the Irons.
“We said it last week, doesn’t look good what’s happening at West Ham,” he said.
“The money they’ve spent, the players that they brought in probably miles away from where they thought and we thought they may be because I felt it was a decent summer for West Ham. It doesn’t seem happy there.”
Julen Lopetegui fails again at West Ham United
Lopetegui’s arrival was received with mixed feelings from the London Stadium faithful, and nearly six months into his arrival, it looks like the club made the wrong appointment.
The Spaniard’s arrival was meant to usher in a new era at West Ham after the dismissal of David Moyes, who was seen as a dull and pragmatic manager.
Lopetegui has struggled to stamp his authority onto the team, and it feels like the 58-year-old’s sacking shortly could be inevitable.
Tim Steidten has also come under pressure as questions have been raised over his decision-making during the summer, although the recruitment seemed decent back then.

Niclas Fullkrug, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Kilman, Todibo and Summerville were all considered astute signings, but most of them haven’t worked out so far, and the blame solely lies at the feet of Lopetegui.
The Hammers have a good enough squad to be challenging for a European spot in the league table, but the Irons are currently fighting to avoid the drop, which doesn’t paint the Spanish manager in the best light.
