Alan Pardew shares Kalvin Phillips verdict after West Ham United developments
Alan Pardew has shared his verdict on Kalvin Phillips’ loan spell at West Ham as the midfielder edges closer to a Manchester City exit.
While the 28-year-old midfielder has joined Pep Guardiola’s pre-season tour of America, few expect him to be at the Etihad Stadium once the 2024/25 campaign kicks off.
A move back to the London Stadium has certainly been ruled out after a failed loan spell with the Hammers last season, having made 10 appearances, giving away goals and receiving a red card.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (31 July, 6:20am), Pardew said: “The loan thing never really worked for him. The West Ham move was really poor for him and the club. Whatever happens, he needs a new club.”
Where will Kalvin Phillips go after West Ham United?
Everton could be the midfielder’s next club, according to Fabrizio Romano [28 July], with the Toffees potentially days away from entering advanced talks with the player.
Following his loan spell at the London Stadium, Phillips will just be hoping to rediscover the form he had during his time at Leeds United before securing his move away from Elland Road in 2022.
Obviously, he would have wanted his loan spell with the Hammers to have worked out for both parties, but fans will not want to see him return unless as an opposition player.
Phillips’ debut saw him almost instantly give a goal away against Bournemouth before back-to-back defeats against Manchester United and Arsenal. This was then followed up by a red card against Nottingham Forest.

David Moyes’ decision to bring him to the London Stadium is certainly not one the club would make again, despite the need to fill Edson Alvarez’s spot in the starting XI due to injury.
While fans became frustrated very quickly with the Man City loanee, most will want Phillips to rediscover his joy for football and make a comeback.
