Alan Curbishley in contention for West Ham United return on short-term basis amid David Moyes speculation

Alan Curbishley is in contention to replace David Moyes at West Ham on a short-term basis until the end of the season, according to Claret and Hugh.

The links come amid huge pressure on current incumbent Moyes after the 5-1 loss to Newcastle on Wednesday (5 April).

Former Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is also reportedly an option for the Hammers, with ex-West Ham manager Slaven Bilic also in contention.

“Our source told us exclusively: ‘He appears to have been unlucky to be sacked and his record by and large shows him to be a good manager – it would be fair to say we have been exploring options but what we really want is a win at Fulham’,” according to Claret and Hugh.

“Others who have been considered as possible caretakers until the end of the season are Slaven Bilic and Alan Curbishley but Harry Redknapp’s disastrous run of results at Birmingham City in 2017 have ruled him out.

“Kevin Nolan’s disastrous spells at Notts County and Orient have ruled him out along with Paul Nevin who is not seen as having enough experience.”

Long list of candidates

The names of Rodgers and ex-Chelsea boss Potter will create plenty of excitement around the London Stadium, with the former seemingly a potential option given his aims to bounce back from his Leicester sacking, with the latter more unlikely as he takes a break from the game.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, however, is perhaps the name of Curbishley, who like Bilic is another former West Ham manager.

He spent two years in the dugout at Upton Park, but is highly unlikely to inspire the current group of players when compared to former player and manager Bilic.

The Croatian could be a suitable replacement for Moyes, at least in the short-term, with the club desperate for that new manager bounce to help them pick up some much-needed points.

Given their recent managerial history, the likes of Nolan and Redknapp would not be sensible appointments, but stranger things have happened in football.

Moyes is destined for the exit door, but his previous success with the Hammers should at least buy him some more time in the dugout at the London Stadium.
