Alan Brazil claims West Ham will miss out on top four and tumble down next season

Alan Brazil is adamant West Ham will not make the top four and claims their success this season will be a one-off.

David Moyes has inspired the East London side to a 55-point haul after 32 games, enough to sit them level with fourth-placed Chelsea in the hunt for Champions League football next season.

There are still six games left to go but speaking on talkSPORT [06:30, 22/04/21] Brazil has made his position clear in an exchange with Ally McCoist.

“West Ham are on the charge, can they keep it going?,” Brazil enquired.

McCoist: “What a job Moysey has done there.”

Brazil: “Brilliant, but can they do it again next year, I’d love to hope so but I’m not sure.”

McCoist: “Wait a second they’ve not finished this year, they’ve got a chance of Champions League football, give them a break then we’ll talk about next year.”

Brazil: “They won’t make the Champions League. They’re fifth and have a chance but I just think Liverpool and Spurs will finish the season strong.”

Write us off at your peril

We’re happy to continue with the tag of underdogs as it’s what has ultimately led us to the position we are in now.

If teams were petrified to play us all season then they would have bunkered up and restricted the space that we have been exploiting, particularly since Jesse Lingard waltzed into East London.

We tend to struggle more with more of the ball, as evidence in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United where we had 64% possession, much lower than our 41% average, despite playing with a man down for a large period of the game. [Wyscout]

But the reality is that we’ve been hitting a high level despite having an extremely stretched squad that has worked miracles despite injuries and other issues.

We don’t even have a senior striking option at the moment with Michail Antonio out injured and Sebastien Haller sold in January.

Just imagine what Moyes will be able to do if he’s afforded a healthy budget in the summer.

If we keep Lingard and add some more depth in the centre of midfield, at left-back and up top, then we could be a force to be reckoned with once again next season.

Brazil’s comments might bite him on the backside then.
