Adrian Durham not impressed by West Ham v Liverpool

There has been a lot of congratulations being thrown West Ham United’s way for simply not capitulating entirely against Liverpool on Monday night.

Perhaps that says more about how the Hammers’ season has gone so far than anything else, but they did perform pretty well at Anfield.

They still managed to throw first three points and then a share of the spoils away in their 3-2 loss, but it was a much-improved performance from the drudgery they offered up at the Etihad last Wednesday.

Still, it now appears that not everyone was impressed by what David Moyes’ side did on Monday.

West Ham

talkSPORT’s resident contrarian Adrian Durham is the man in question. He was left baffled by the Irons’ failure to win the game at Anfield.

“This is the first time I’ve seen them look like they’re there for the taking in the Premier League this season,” he said of Liverpool on talkSPORT.

“They were there to be beaten, and a decent side would’ve beaten them. When we look at West Ham, yeah they scored two goals – one of them was Alisson not doing what he should’ve done.

“The other one comes off [Pablo] Fornals’ calf and kind of slides it – it was an incredibly fortunate finish.

“Is anyone off the back of that totally confident, at home to Southampton on Saturday – and I’m gonna be there – they will win? If that’s the best they can do, and still lose to a below par Liverpool, they’re in massive trouble, even bigger trouble than we all thought.”

Does Durham have a point?

He’s right that West Ham are in trouble, but we all knew that already. He’s also correct that you can’t be confident of the Hammers beating the Saints on Saturday. But you can’t be confident about them beating anyone at the minute.

Obviously you shouldn’t be praised too much when you throw away a 2-1 lead, but they were still playing Liverpool.

Yes, the Reds weren’t at their exquisite best. But Trent Alexander-Arnold was, and when that’s the case the opposition is always in trouble.

So he does have something of a point, because the high-fiving over the Hammers’ display has been a bit much, but as usual Durham’s gone too far the other way.
