AC Milan transfer decision could leave West Ham United with free run at Daichi Kamada

West Ham could be given a free run at Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada after AC Milan have decided they will prioritise a move for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano shared via his Twitter page [22 July] that Milan’s deal for Kamada is set to collapse due to reaching the limit of non-EU players that can be registered to play for Italian clubs, which could leave the door open for the East London club to swoop.

The Hammers could look to capitalise on the situation, having been linked to Kamada last summer [ExWHUEmployee], who claimed the club were targeting the Japan international as an ambitious target.

Kamada would be a brilliant coup

For West Ham to pull off the signing of a player who looked set to join the Champions League semi-finalists would be a fantastic move, especially for a player as talented as Kamada.

The Japanese international is currently without a club following his release from Frankfurt, for whom he scored nine goals and created seven in 32 Bundesliga appearances from midfield. These are very impressive numbers which would add a new dimension to West Ham’s midfield.

West Ham

The Hammers currently lack goals in the middle of the park beyond set-piece threats. West Ham’s current attacking midfield options managed just seven goals between them in the Premier League last season, with Lucas Paqueta scoring four and Pablo Fornals getting three.

West Ham have been targeting midfielders this summer following Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal for £105million, and while Kamada is pretty much as far as you can get from a like-for-like replacement, he would offer an opportunity to make the midfield much stronger overall.

This has to be one to watch.

In other West Ham news, the club are finally closing in on a deal for new midfielder.
