‘Absolute nightmare’ – Dean Ashton delivers ‘strong’ verdict on West Ham talent
Dean Ashton has heaped praise on West Ham forward Michail Antonio, claiming that the 29-year-old is an “absolute nightmare” to play against.
The versatile frontman was on the scoresheet during the Hammers’ 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend, and managed to bag himself an assist too.
And ex-Iron Ashton has been hugely impressed by what he’s seen from the former Nottingham Forest man.
Speaking to WHUFC.com, he said: “Antonio is an absolute handful and would be an absolute nightmare to play against for any defender because he’s got the pace, he’s raw, and he’s as strong as an ox.
“And I think his end-product is improving season on season as well, which I think is so important.”
How good has Antonio been this season?
You have to feel heartily sorry for the forward in some respects because injuries have prevented him from having a superb season for the Hammers.
Various complaints have limited him to just 14 Premier League appearances, and you can’t help feeling that had he played more often, the Hammers would be in a much less precarious position.
Antonio might only have two goals and two assists this term, but his impact on matches cannot be understated.
With 7.45 successful dribbles and 6.3 aerial duels won per 90 minutes, as per Wyscout, he is a constant handful that combines a genuine physical threat with terrifying pace.
Most importantly though, Sebastien Haller looks so much better for having somebody up top alongside him, and the two in tandem look as if they could have the makings of a very exciting partnership.
