Aaron Cresswell buys house on Merseyside ahead of potential West Ham exit

West Ham full-back Aaron Cresswell has bought a new house on Merseyside as he prepares for life after leaving the club according to The Sun.

The 32-year-old has been a mainstay in the Hammers team for the past eight seasons since arriving from Ipswich, but his contract is set to enter its final year and he has yet to have been offered a new one.

The Liverpool-born defender appears to be getting ready to move back home as his time in London could be drawing to a close, with a potential exit this summer even suggested.

The Sun report says: “Cresswell is happy to stay at West Ham but knows he will be heading ‘home’ at some point and may even find a move to a local club this summer.”

Ben Johnson filled in at left-back after Cresswell was shown a red card in the Europa League against Lyon.

Arthur Masuaku is the other recognised member of the squad at the position, but is reportedly set for the exit door with Claret & Hugh reporting that the club are “hoping” for offers.

Johnson is a reasonable fill-in but is primarily a right-sided full-back, so it seems unlikely he is going to be relied upon to shoulder the burden full-time on the other side.

Cresswell doesn’t look to be ready for the scrap heap yet, so a summer exit would make little sense at this point.

Unless the club have an obvious replacement ready to come in this summer, the former Tranmere Rovers man could even extent his stay at the London Stadium.

According to Total Football Analysis the Irons have an interest in Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa, but as with most recent transfer targets there has been nothing concrete.

At his age, Cresswell is clearly approaching the end of his career at the top level, but there is no reason to assume he cannot still perform there for a few seasons yet.

In other West Ham news, Simon Jordan made a big prediction on the club ownership and money for reaching the next level.
