Marlon Harewood claims West Ham needed Grady Diangana this season

Marlon Harewood has claimed that West Ham United needed a player like Grady Diangana this season in the Premier League.

The former Hammers striker believes that it was a ludicrous decision to allow the young winger to join West Brom in the summer.

Diangana’s exit caused controversy though, with Mark Noble and Jack Wilshere just two of the players to speak out against the board.

Speaking to the Transfer Tavern, Harewood slammed the Irons for their “crazy” decision to sell one of the brightest talents at such a key moment.

“He is a fantastic player, you would have thought he would have been a part of West Ham going forward,” he said.

“That’s what West Ham need (a player like Diangana), to let someone like that go at the time that you need someone like that and you’re going into the season, is crazy.”

Looking at Diangana this season in the Premier League, the Irons may have secured themselves a great deal.

West Brom and Slaven Bilic are struggling to get the best out of him, and have often used him off the bench rather than starting at the Hawthorns.

The 22-year-old has only scored once in his nine Premier League appearances and is only averaging 0.4 key passes per game according to WhoScored.

So, Diangana isn’t scoring and he isn’t creating – two critical things to being a successful winger, and the Irons may have got away with one here.
