West Ham United v Arsenal: Piers Morgan fumes at Declan Rice incident
Piers Morgan slams West Ham fans for booing Declan Rice as Arsenal routed the hosts at the London Stadium on Sunday, 11 February.
Each time the England international got the ball, the Hammers supporters began booing their former captain.
The 24-year-old did enjoy a happy return to the London Stadium, registering two assists and being among the better players for the Gunners.
Via Twitter, Morgan wrote: “So classless of West Ham fans to incessantly boo Declan Rice after all he did for their club.”
Piers spot on about West Ham fans
While the fans’ emotional attachment to Rice is understandable, his departure shouldn’t warrant such treatment.
The midfielder remained loyal to the club despite opportunities to leave earlier, demonstrating commitment and contributing significantly to their success, including securing a European trophy.
Moreover, his transfer ensured a substantial financial windfall for the Hammers, further underlining his value to the club.
It’s essential to acknowledge Rice’s contributions and the mutual benefits derived from his time at West Ham, rather than harbouring resentment.
Additionally, it’s unrealistic to expect any player to spend their entire career at one club, especially considering the competitive nature of modern football.
The fans who have bad blood against Rice are among the minority and while it would’ve been awful to witness the Rice masterclass against their side, they can understand the intention behind leaving.
Edson Alvarez, the man signed to replace him, was underwhelming.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes is now concerned over the temperament of a first-team regular and may decide to axe him after a recent transfer development.
