West Ham United sickness bug shut down ahead of Manchester City showdown

Roshane Thomas has squashed any news of a sickness bug in the West Ham squad ahead of a final showdown against Manchester City on Sunday (19 May).

The Hammers team news insider, Sam C, reported that David Moyes’ squad had been hit with a bug ahead of their final day of the season as they travelled to the Etihad Stadium.

However, that rumour was quickly squashed before kick-off, with The Athletic journalist stating via X [19 May] that there is “no sickness bug” in the West Ham squad.

West Ham United ready to face Manchester City

Though the Irons are no longer playing for anything, other than their own pride, there is still a lot riding on their trip to Manchester on the final day of the season.

West Ham could have a telling say in the Premier League title race, with Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking side preparing to claim their fourth consecutive league title.

Standing in their way is the Hammers, with Arsenal hoping to lift their first league trophy since the 2003/04 campaign, who are facing an in-form Everton team on the final day.

History would suggest that West Ham’s battle against Man City will be nothing more than a formality, having not beaten the Citizens in the league since a 2-1 away win in September 2015.

That match saw Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho outscore Kevin De Bruyne, though it will take a lot more to achieve a minor miracle this season. Man City are currently unbeaten in the Premier League since December.

Of course, news that the “sickness bug” is just a rumour will be a huge boost ahead of the tie. But it will still be an extremely difficult task to take anything out of the game in what will be Moyes’ final game in charge of the London side.
